Introduction and Historical Background of Leptis Magna
Leptis Magna is an ancient Roman city located on the eastern coast of Tripoli in Libya and is considered one of the best-preserved archaeological sites in North Africa.
The city was originally founded by the Phoenicians around the 7th century BCE and later became an important city under Carthaginian and Roman rule. It reached its peak during the reign of Emperor Septimius Severus, who was born in Leptis Magna and invested heavily in its expansion.
The site contains impressive remains such as an amphitheater, triumphal arch, marketplace, and Roman baths. The baths were not only for hygiene but also served as social and cultural centers.
Today, Leptis Magna is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and stands as a remarkable example of Roman urban planning and architecture.'지중해 리비아' 카테고리의 다른 글
